Exciting news for North Carolina! The Butterfly North Carolina Point Tour will be launched in March 2008.  The Tour Sponsor is Butterfly, and the Tour is a partnered effort by Butterfly, the Cary Table Tennis Association (Mike Babuin) and the Raleigh Area Table Tennis Club (Jim McQueen).  It is a tour of 20 tournaments.  There will be prizes awarded at each event, plus participants will accumulate Tour Points in a myriad of categories.  Tour Points will convert to raffle tickets at the end of the season and a $3000 cash raffle drawing will follow at the end of the tour.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:  There will be a series of 20 tournaments in Raleigh and Cary between March and November 2008.  Prizes will be awarded to the Class winners at each event; these prizes will include TT equipment and some surprise items.  In ADDITION to these prizes (and rating points, and bragging rights, and pride), players will earn Tour Points in several categories that will accumulate over the season.  At the end of the Tour, there will be a $3000 CASH RAFFLE drawing.  The more Tour Points you have, the more raffle tickets you will have in the tumbler.  The more tickets you have, the greater your chances of winning more money!  But, remember, even if you only have ONE ticket in the raffle, it STILL might be one of the cash winners!  There will also be a Club Participation Award!

FORMAT:  Each tournament will be giant round robin format so everyone will get to play plenty of matches. Also, ALL players, regardless of playing level (from beginner through advanced), will earn Tour Points in several categories.  Points will be awarded in these categories: 

• Points for Tournament Participation
• Points for Multiple Tournament Participation
• Points for Class Qualification at Each Tournament
• Points for Class Finishing Position at Each Tournament
• Points for Mileage Traveled
• Points for Rating Points Gained at Each Tournament
  
• Points for Each Match Played
  
• Points for Multiple Event Participation at the Butterfly Cary Cup Championships March 13-16, 2008 (Hurry up and enter before it’s Too Late! Even the doubles events count.)

2008 BUTTERFLY NORTH CAROLINA TOUR POINT AWARD STRUCTURE:  At year end, each player’s accumulated Tour Points will be converted into tickets for a giant end-of-year raffle. As an example, participants might receive one ticket for every 100 Tour Points earned. The more points you accrue, the more tickets you receive.  Everyone’s tickets will be put into a raffle tumbler.  A year-end Tour Banquet is planned.  Winning tickets will be drawn from the tumbler.  As an example, there might be a total of 200 tickets in the tumbler;  perhaps 30 winning tickets would be drawn, each with a value of $100.  So, if you have lots of tickets in the tumbler and 4 of yours are drawn, you would win $400.  However, if you only have one ticket in the tumbler and it gets drawn, you would win $100.  And so on.  Until all $3000 is awarded!

Last but not least, there is a fabulous Club Participation award! 
(Note: Raleigh/Cary/Durham/Chapel Hill area clubs are NOT eligible!)
On their entry form, each player can designate their home club.  At the end of the season, the club that has the most cumulative number of participants at all 20 Tour Events will receive a $1,250 top quality, blue, tournament used, competition quality table for their club (delivery not included; pick-up in Cary, NC).

STATISTICS:  Each player’s (and club’s) ongoing results will be tracked and posted periodically by our VOLUNTEER Tour Point Statistician, Tom Simpson.  (THANKS Tom!). Updates will be shared via email and on the club website (RATTC.org).  Final results will be announced at year-end in November when we raffle off the $3,000 in CASH PRIZES!
